Drone in a Box (DiAB)

Drone‑in‑a‑box systems enable scheduled, repeatable missions with minimal manual handling. The Vertical Co provides end‑to‑end DiAB delivery: site assessment, installation, commissioning, operational governance and sustainment.

Fixed‑Site DiAB

Fixed site DiAB installations provide long-term, reliable autonomous capability for sites requiring consistent monitoring and operational continuity. This model is suited to government facilities, agricultural research stations and infrastructure assets where permanent deployment delivers improved system stability, reduced maintenance exposure, improved security and streamlined regulatory coordination

Typical fixed site deployments include:

  • Permanent fixture to a concrete slab
  • Secured fence compound with required signage
  • Integration with onsite power and data
  • Connectivity redundancy (Starlink and/or bonded 4G/5G)
  • Optional climate controlled enclosure for supporting equipment in harsh conditions
  • Remote system health monitoring and operational support
  • Local control or control from our Remote Operations Centre (ROC)

Mobile / Trailer‑Based DiAB

Where mobility is required (seasonal programs, multi‑site operations, temporary deployments), we can deploy trailer‑based drone‑in‑a‑box configurations. These deployments remain governed under our compliance framework and operational model.

Typical mobile deployments include:

  • Trailer-based autonomous dock configuration
  • Rapid setup and commissioning
  • Solar/Battery system with ability to connect to onsite power if possible
  • Dual connectivity for redundancy (Starlink and bonded 4G/5G)
  • Remote system health monitoring and operational support
  • Local control or control from our Remote Operations Centre (ROC)

Managed Operations Model

We Provide:

  • Flight planning and scheduling
  • Flight operations from our Remote Operations Centre
  • Operational oversight and logging
  • Maintenance coordination and warranty support pathways
  • Safety management, checklists and procedures
  • Ongoing technical support

Drone-in-a-Box FAQs

A Drone-in-a-Box (DiAB) system is an autonomous drone platform housed within a weather-protected dock that supports automated charging, mission scheduling and remote activation. These systems enable repeatable monitoring with minimal manual handling.

Yes. The Vertical Co deploys and manages Drone-in-a-Box systems across Australia for government, agricultural and infrastructure environments. Deployments are delivered as managed capability under our ReOC.

The Vertical Co operates as the operator of record under our CASA ReOC. All flights — including autonomous missions — are planned, activated and logged within our compliance framework.

Clients gain autonomous capability without assuming regulatory burden.

Drone-in-a-Box systems support scheduled and remote-activated missions, but operations remain governed within a structured operational model. Flights are subject to defined procedures, risk assessment and oversight under our Safety Management System.

Autonomy enhances efficiency — governance ensures reliability.

Fixed-site deployments typically require:

• A stable mounting surface (e.g., concrete slab)
• Access to power
• Data connectivity
• A secure fenced compound

Final requirements are confirmed during site assessment.

Yes. In addition to fixed installations, mobile or trailer-based Drone-in-a-Box deployments are available where operational mobility is required. These systems remain managed under our regulatory and operational framework.

Where operationally appropriate and within regulatory approvals, Drone-in-a-Box systems can support BVLOS missions. Suitability is assessed based on site characteristics, airspace and risk profile.

Operational architecture is designed with connectivity planning in mind. Systems usually incorporate redundant communication pathways as required. Mission parameters are defined to ensure safe operational outcomes within structured governance controls.

The Vertical Co manages commissioning, monitoring and coordination of maintenance. We work with installation and supply partners to support warranty and hardware servicing pathways where required.

Drone-in-a-Box systems are well suited to:

• Agricultural research stations
• Remote infrastructure
• Utility and water assets
• Large rural properties
• Security monitoring environments

Costs vary depending on configuration, infrastructure requirements and operational model (purchase or managed lease). We provide detailed proposals aligned to client requirements and program durations.
